Rookwood Cemetery is the largest cemetery in the southern hemisphere to still be functioning. It takes up almost an entire suburb and is divided into several smaller sectarian cemeteries - Catholic, Anglican, Independent Section and the Crematorium.

Independent Section A

Independent Section A

This section is a traditional monumental section. It is also the shadiest section in Rookwood and is perhaps my favourite section, not least because it is near where my 2nd great grandmother is buried.

Because of its age, many of the gravestones and monuments are broken, fallen down or falling apart. But it is still one of the loveliest sections of Rookwood.

Methodist Section 5W

Methodist Section 5W

This section is a traditional monumental area. There are not many headstones in this section. Whether this is because there haven't been many burials, or its a poorer section where relatives couldn't afford gravestones, is hard to say.

Methodist Section 3B

Rookwood Methodist Section 3B

This section is an older style monumental section. Most of the graves are old and the majority have fallen into disrepair. Parts of the section are overgrown with weeds. Posted by Picasa
